Success Story

TESU graduates come from all walks of life, but each has a common purpose: the desire to finish what they started.

Thomas Edison State University is honored to partner with some of the largest, most respected corporations in the world and employers across every business sector.

Through the Corporate Choice® Program at the University, we focus on developing partnerships that enable organizations to develop their human capital and enhance staff development, recruitment and retention programs.

Jeffrey Stokes '15, can attest to the transformational nature of higher education. Stokes' employer, Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), formed a strategic partnership with the University in 2009. The energy company’s objective was to develop a stronger workforce and increase employee retention. Here's more about Stokes and what earning his degree means to him:

Jeffrey Stokes at-a-glance:

Job title: Senior Director of Power Generation

Length of time to degree completion: 1 year

Personal story: "I began my journey as a nuclear reactor operator in the United States Navy, joining upon my graduation from high school. I served six years before transitioning to civilian life. As a veteran, I began a career in commercial power generation, working for 12 years at General Electric (GE) before my work for PSEG. Through hard work, dedication and the achievement of my bachelor’s degree, I earned increasing positions of responsibility within both organizations, currently holding the position of Senior Director of Power Generation at PSEG."

Degree earned: Bachelor of Science degree with an area of study in Energy Systems Technology.

The "ROI" according to Stokes: "PSEG afforded me an amazing opportunity to complete my BS degree in Energy Systems Technology for which I am extremely grateful. I was able to complete 17 classes for a total of 51 credits in the period of one year. Without the understanding and guidance of my employer, none of this would have been possible. PSEG also allowed me the ability to take part in many leadership, organizational behavior and communications classes, which directly benefit me in my current role."
