Success Story
TESU graduates come from all walks of life, but each has a common purpose: the desire to finish what they started.
Thomas Edison State University is honored to partner with some of the largest, most respected corporations in the world and employers across every business sector.
Through the Corporate Choice® Program at the University, we focus on developing partnerships that enable organizations to develop their human capital and enhance staff development, recruitment and retention programs.
Marcus Dumas '16, can attest to the transformational nature of higher education. Dumas' employer, United Parcel Service (UPS), formed a strategic partnership with the University in 2007. The international shipping company's objective was to develop a stronger workforce and increase employee retention. Here's more about Dumas and what earning his degree means to him:
Marcus Dumas at-a-glance:
Job Title: UPS Supervisor
Length of time to degree completion: Four and a half years
Personal story: "My family has been very supportive of me in my endeavor to steadfastly push myself to complete my college education. While working two jobs and — with my very supportive wife — raising six kids and being an active member in the church and community, my goal has been accomplished."
Degree earned: Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies,'16, with a concentration in social sciences.
The "ROI" according to Dumas: "Earning my degree has given me additional income opportunities that I would not have had without it. I now have several directions I can pursue, including earning a promotion at my current job and potentially becoming an educator. I am the first of my mother's children to earn a college degree and have inspired my own children to do the same, proving to them that it's never too late to reach your goals."
